The System Is Broken
A vehicle helps us get to work, care for our families and build the lives we value. Yet the system for buying and selling privately hasnʼt evolved, even though the risks have!
Youʼre expected to rely on instinct to detect fraud and manage risk, simply to sell your own car. And still, you choose this path for good reason: fairness, flexibility and keeping more of what youʼve earned.
The system needs to change. So we built a new one.
Our Journey So Far...
Our CEO sells her car on the side of a road. Money is transferred; then disappears into the banking abyss for 6 hours. She panics.
Our CEO's parents sell their car. Her dad shares his driver’s licence, then gets asked to send his bank statements. He has a sleepless night.
Our Head of Technology sells his car. A tow truck turns up to collect it - no name, no warning. Under pressure, he hands over the keys and spends hours wondering if he’s just been robbed.
Our Head of Marketing buys a motorbike interstate, sight unseen. She transfers the money and worries for a week until it arrives.
Our CEO helps her friend sell a car from a deceased estate. A buyer comes to the house with cash and refuses to complete the registration transfer form but asks them to sign a blank one. They feel scared.
Our Head of Marketing buys another motorbike. The seller won't disclose their address but asks her to drive to a remote location to see the motorbike. She goes, anxiously, because her son really wants the motorbike.
Our Head of Operations buys a car for her son. She transfers $36k electronically while at the dealership. The money vanishes into the banking abyss for 3 days. She panics that the money is lost and can't collect the car.
Our Customer Service Team Leader sells her classic car through a dealer instead of privately, paying an 8.8% commission. That's a wild $4,400 fee for selling her beloved car.
2026 – We launched Veme to simplify private car buying and selling and make the experience safer and easier for everyone.
